I am a man who is recently coming out of his very first relationship. in one month i will be 22, and i met this man who is my age before i turned 20 so it's almost 2 years. i waited a long time to meet the right person to love, so i kept my virginity until i became his partner in love because it felt like the time was right. I was waiting for a spiritual person who had something he believed in so i thought that because we were of like mind we could go through anything. but in some ways we're very very different, and he also feels called to other things and feels he must be alone for spiritual purposes. we hope to remain friends in the future.

I am deeply saddened by this transition and i still have strong feelings for him, but i know that attachment to memories and fear of loneliness is holding me back. i will continue with strength on my path but i do have doubts. Because i was wrong about this relationship, i feel like i am without a compass. How can love change so easily?

i want to continue to enrich my soul through spiritual and academic learning and the arts, so that whomever should receive me would receive me at my very best. but i am afraid of becoming attached to a person just because i am afraid of being alone and they show me a moment of kindness.

what qualities should i search for in a mate in the future, and how does it feel to know your true companion?

Love is not an easy thing to understand. Maybe you fell for him out of attraction versus true love. True love means non-attachment.
